Albania
Albania is a sleeping beauty which is slowly awakening. This is an amazing country of many contrasts. From 1944 to 1991 Albania was a completely isolated, closed country without any foreign influence. Although this had many negative consequences on peoples’ lives and economy, it also helped them keep their originality, intact nature and landscape. Albania is remarkable and unlike any other country in the region; their language is an isolate within Indo-European languages (with no similarities to any other language) and it has evolved from an ancient Balkan language spoken thousands of years ago. Here one can still find traditional lifestyle present in remote places and actually meet people who still wear traditional clothes, build and work in a traditional way without any modernization involved.
Albania is rich with natural beauties, with many rivers still flowing free, without riverbeds or dams, something you can only see in National Parks in rest of Europe. The fascinating and picturesque towns under protection of UNESCO and endless sandy beaches are attracting more and more people every year and tourism is slowly but surely developing. The Albanian time is yet to come.
This country is a perfect destination for guided cultural and adventure tours, it has endless possibilities but sometimes with a lacking infrastructure. We do not recommend self-drive tours, since the roads are not well marked and it is quite easy to get lost.
