Breakfast in hotel.
08.00 transfer to Roč, 201km
11.00 visit Roč and fresco painting
Roč – historic center of Croatian literacy
In the centre of the north Istria, 348 metres above sea-level, in the midst of natural beauties, a small town of Roč rises, located 10 kilometres from Buzet. The town was founded in ancient history. It started as an Illyrian settlement, then became a Roman castrum surrounded by numerous small settlements.
In the Middle Ages, it transformed into a fortified castle, separated by walls and defensive towers and Small and Large Gate. During the 15th and the 16th century, Roč was the centre of Croatian literacy, editorship, and printing based on the oldest Slavic Glagolitic Alphabet.
One of the most important medieval monuments is the Romanesque church of St. Roch. The church interior is decorated with two layers of frescoes: from the 14th and 15th century.
On the wall of the church of St. Anthony is an inscription known as the Glagolitic Abecedarium, one of the most significant proofs of Glagolitic activity in Roč. The third church in Roč is the parish church of St. Bartholomew with its organ.
Short presentation of the workshop of frescoes in the art studio. In the studio “Fresco” guests are greeted by an artist costumed by a medieval painter who in the unique atmosphere of his own studio tells the story of wall painting in Istria with a presentation of the creation of the fresco. Guests who wish can briefly try out the fresco-making technique on one example.

13.30 continue to Grožnjan, 40km visit of the town and municipal gallery Fontica
Owing to this somewhat “hippy” project, Grožnjan is now home to some twenty galleries and art studios, known as the “town of artists” both among the locals and the tourists: Valuable works of art can be found, from wonderful antique furniture to works of young painters: The doors of all galleries are open almost non-stop: Artists, owners and tourists, all sit together on stone benches or on the street, with a glass of good homemade brandy, talking about some other world: A world in which life seems simple, easygoing and calm, almost like in an utopian dream, with people dancing and smiling while the music plays, enjoying sunsets and sunrises.

16.00 Visit of Poreč with local guide (including entrance to Euphrasian Basilica)

Porec has about 17 000 inhabitants who are now mainly engaged in tourism which is also the main industry; before people were mainly engaged in agriculture and fishing. What is most characteristic of Porec is the Euphrasian Basilica which was built in the 6th century during the period of bishop Euphrasius. The basilica was protected by the UNESCO in 1997. The old town has preserved the original Roman street layout; the main streets of Cardo and Decumanus. Sightseeing Zadar with English speaking local guide
Zadar is an ancient Mediterranean port city: Built on Roman urban principles, where there are several major longitudinal streets traversed by a greater number of latitudinal streets, give the city a rectangular shape: The old town is a treasure trove of archaeological treasures and monuments to the ancient, medieval and Renaissance periods.
Producing a constant murmur of ethereal sound, Zadar’s Sea Organ (Morske orgulje) is one of the most popular pieces of public art so far commissioned in Croatia, and has become something of a trademark for the city that serves as its home. Unveiled in April 2005, the organ consists of a low staircase descending into the sea, with five rows of seven organ pipes hidden beneath the steps. Air is pushed by wave power through the pipes, producing the polyphony of gentle, lowing sounds for which the organ has become famous. When the Adriatic is calm, the organ’s music is slow and meditative; when the sea is choppy, all of the organ’s 35 pipes might be blasting happily away at once. Although conceived by leading local architect Nikola Bašić the organ was a truly collaborative effort, involving acoustics expert Ivan Stamać, organ builder Tomislav Faullend Heferer, hydraulic engineer Vladimir Andročec and specialist pipe manufacturer Goran Ježina.
You will visit Museum of Ancient glass,
The museum is one of the city’s greatest attractions and rightfully so. It’s housed in the 19th century Cosmacendi Palace and has some outstanding views that overlook the Jazine harbor. The museum contains one of the premium collections of Roman glassware outside Italy, with a cornucopia of goblets, jars and vials retrieved from archaeological sites across Dalmatia. Highlights include the delicate vessels used by Roman ladies to store perfumes, skin creams and essential oils. Also look out for glass cups used to celebrate Mass, and dainty flasks in which holy water was stored. Take the opportunity to see the replica Roman glassware on sale as you´ll no doubt enter one of the classiest souvenir-stops in the city.

Bukovac’s birthplace is a typical bourgeois house from the late 18th and early 19th century, a two-storey building with a small garden on the south facade and a spacious back garden on the north. The house, situated in one of the small streets leading from the Cavtat seafront to Prijeko, has, since ancient times, had the continuity of a living place. During excavation of the land on the northern side of the house, remains were found of a building dating back to the Roman period, with its floor, a large number of bricks, pottery and two pots.
