Zagreb has served as the cultural and political focus of the nation since the middle Ages. The city grew out of two medieval communities, Kaptol to the east and Gradec to the west, each sited on a hill and divided by a (long since dried up) river. Zagreb grew rapidly in the nineteenth century, and many of the city’s buildings are well-preserved, peach-colored monuments to the self-esteem of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Zagreb is more than just a gateway to Central Europe; it is a melting pot. The city incorporates all the benefits of the West with the promising opportunities of the developing regions in South and East Europe, making it an ideal location for your company. A vibrating city on the river Sava, at the heart of a politically and economically stable market, Zagreb has a long history, rich culture, offers high quality life-style, excellent prospects and a highly educated population boasting over 1 million people. The city offers a uniquely vivacious café life and a year-round program of heavy-duty art exhibitions and at least one genuine cultural flagship in the shape of the recently opened Museum of Contemporary Art. The Croatian capital’s growing reputation for arty fun also extends into its nightlife, with cutting-edge clubs, live gig venues and summer festivals.

Buzet-city of truffles

Buzet is situated in the very north of Istria near the border with Slovenia. Its historic core, dating from the Middle Ages lies on a hilltop above a fertile valley of the longest Istrian River – the Mirna. Today, Buzet is widely known as the ‘City of Truffles’ since the forests along the Mirna River are especially rich in this divine tuber. According to some views, the white truffle of Istria is as good as the most famous white truffle from the Italian region of Alba. In honor of this truffle, each year Truffle Days are organized in September and October.

Hum- smallest city in the world

The Gates of the World. We enter the smallest town in the world. It was mentioned for the first time in 1102. Town walls protected the town from frequent intrusions of the Venetians and the Turks. On the west town gates are two Glagolitic writings. The gates will be again solemnly opened next year – the Town of Hum Day brings the new town patron «For a year». Hum lies 7 km from Roč. Apart from being famous as the smallest town in the world, it has also been recently promoted as the Town of Biska. Biska   is mistletoe brandy whose original recipe comes from Hum. Every year at the end of October Hum is the host of a Brandy exhibit where a competition for the best brandy in Istria is organized. The traditional custom of electing the county prefect for a year has been preserved until today. Hum is also the final point of the famous monument complex known as the Glagolitic Lane commemorating the importance of Glagolitic literature. The Lane stretches for 7 km from Roč to Hum.

Roč – historic center of Croatian literacy

In the centre of the north Istria, 348 metres above sea-level, in the midst of natural beauties, a small town of Roč rises, located 10 kilometres from Buzet. The town was founded in ancient history. It started as an Illyrian settlement, then became a Roman castrum surrounded by numerous small settlements. In the Middle Ages, it transformed into a fortified castle, separated by walls and defensive towers and Small and Large Gate. During the 15th and the 16th century, Roč was the centre of Croatian literacy, editorship, and printing based on the oldest Slavic Glagolitic Alphabet. Today’s outlook of Roč dates from the times of Venetian rule. Roč which has become a destinatin for many visitors, tourists and those enchanted by history, Glagolitic script, and the beauty of the hill below Ćićarija descending through the valley of Mirna towards the warm sea, is keeping up with contemporary events.

Overnight, Istria region

          b) Wine day

The value of a grapevine in Istria is recognized from long ago. The ancient Romans have praised the peninsula’s Teran while in the middle age the Muscat wines of Istria were served on the royal tables! Today, the wine is an unavoidable part of the Istrian gastronomy and the way of life in Istria and there are many events dedicated to it.

Wine has one of the leading roles in Istrian gastronomy…It is difficult not to combine the Mediterranean cuisine, one of the healthiest in the world, with red or white wine. Have you ever tried Istrian Malvasia, Teran, Muscat of Momjan or Muscat Rose of Poreč with fish, cheese, meat or dessert?

Additional options on supplement:

Konavle is a region with particular natural beauties and contrasts: mountain and valley, green hills and naked stone, the blue and the green or, as called by the inhabitants of Konavle, “Gornja” and “Donja Banda”. Fringed by the Konavle mountains in the North, bordered by the Adriatic Sea in the South, it reaches from the entry into the Bay of Kotor to the peninsula of Prevlaka in the East, and in the West, it inclines down to the cosy coves of Obod and Cavtat. The preserved natural, unique and exceptionally precious rural architecture, numerous monuments of the thousand-year-old history of this area, traditions that are hundreds of years old and have been kept through folklore, the distinctive traditional costumes of Konavle and the Konavle embroidery, the harmony of man’s life and the nature …all this renders Konavle unique and recognizable.

They gladly share their skills and knowledge in order to preserve their intangible heritage and keep it alive. They produce silk just the way their ancestors did. They feed silkworms throughout the season from Late March until the end of October. Using their own cocoons during demonstrations and workshops of traditional silk thread production, just the way it has been done in Konavle region for centuries. Visitors can see silkworms in all of their phases from late March until the first days of November. AR Atelier treasures and displays a rich collection of traditional textile handcrafts representing parts of traditional Konavle costume and some everyday utilities. AR atelier is proudly bearing national protection of the art of making Konavle embroidery (within the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia).

After lunch return to the coast to visit lovely Cavtat

Walking tour of Cavtat with your local guide

The picture-perfect village of Cavtat, Croatia’s southernmost town, a short drive from the Konavle plains and Montenegro. In ancient Greek times Cavtat was known as the town of Epidaurus. When the Romans came in 228 BC, it became a Roman colony. It’s easy to see why the Greeks and Romans were so charmed by this lovely place. It’s naturally protected by a rocky headland that still has remnants of an old fort. The town itself is a delight – there is a small “Old Town” with cobbled streets and alleys that meet the palm tree lined promenade that winds its way around the harbor.

Option 2) COOKING CLASS IN KINVALE REGION

09.00 OR tba Private transfer to homestead at Gruda,

After arrival, we introduce the participants with the hosts and introduce the cooking class program in general. Depending on the season, desires and interests of all participants, we agree on a cooking plan. This plan can be different depending on the available seasonal crops, the individual desires of participants and their special interests. Once the plan is defined, we go to the kitchen and describe the steps required to achieve the final meals. We outline all the ingredients that we need for the meals. The first step is making homemade bread and each participant will knead their own bread. While the bread rises, we go to our garden and pick the necessary ingredients and gather fresh eggs. After we return to the kitchen, participants will teach how to make tasty traditional meal and cake with those ingredients. We usually prepare our traditional menu Lovorno skewer (meat on bay leaf sticks). If participants would like they can also experience milking the neighbor’s goat.
